TAMBUNAN RAFFLESIA INFORMATION CENTRE

Accessibility : About 58 kilometers from Kota Kinabalu - Tambunan main road.
The centre serves as the entrance to theVirgin Forest Reserves around it. For those who do not wish to do jungle trackking, the Centre provides information on the largest flower in the world. The unique feature of the reserve is the high occurence of the world's largest flower, the Rafflesia precei. Jungle tracking and the sight of a Rafflesia in full bloam makes the Rafflesia Forest Reserve an interesting place to visit.
The natural vegetation here is of the oak/chestnut type with highland diopterocarps of which these are some significant stands at the lower elevations along the Sunsuron Rivet and its valleys. Large trees, esp of Shorea app, can be found on ridges and slopes. One Shorea with a girth of just under 600cm was found at an elevation of 1350 meters.
